Digitization as an opportunity

Digital change - what does that mean?

The digital change is that conventional processes from the private or professional life with the help of new media are made easier and more efficient. The digital change pervades all sectors and areas of life.

You want to understand the characteristics of digital change one must understand the basic needs that are to be satisfied. Social media are available for interaction and social recognition. In the field of mobility one would like away from A B. The message consumer is the satisfaction of the individual need for information.

Digitisation provides only tools available to achieve these goals. The person / customer / user chooses only the means with which these goals can be achieved best, efficient, convenient and comfortable. Attracts you the "Maslow needs pyramid" to further understanding or considering the approaches of "Bread and circuses" as well as "love, sex and rock 'n' roll" or "Wine, women and song" it is clear that entertainment is a decisive factor in the choice of tools.

Also the digital change itself is located in a continuous change. Amazon selling not just books. The ecosystem of uber more than to bring just people from A to B deals with a lot. Social media marketing doesn't end when you create a Facebook page.

New opportunities and new challenges

Digitization stands for information technology. Information stands for power. The digital change promotes and feeds on the easier access to information. Many new opportunities arise. These provide opportunities for those who adapt and are able to take advantage of these innovations. Those who refuse the change have problems. The latter see often only the digital medium, but not the underlying needs. The digital change can be described as a kind of neo Darwinism.

Winners or losers - the impact of ecosystem

Winners are those who understand the potential and properly in place. Losers are those who dismiss the characteristics of digital change than hype, fad or temporary trend.  The latter try to delay the digitization often or subsidise old with new.

First mover

They say traditional makers of new disruptive business ideas that can be implemented in their industry, one often hears in response "...na hopefully will implement that nobody".  But there will be always someone who will do it. This will be the first-mover – most of the others will then probably have left.

GUID vs. Locally

Often lack the understanding that digitisation has no regional boundaries. Is misunderstood progress in a region by regulations is restricted, other companies that can evolve freely take advantage in global competition. Digital change is coming anyway, however others benefit from market power and added value. Regional regulations have hence even less impact on these companies.  Customers select the product with the best overall package. Considered in the longer term it hurts so your own and encourages the uncontrollable. Dominant US did not have the opportunity to offer comparable service and usability companies such as Facebook and Google in Europe.

Responsible user

Properly to deal with new media, requires a Grundverständis about what happens in the background and how digital technologies work.

As well as the provider of digital services, and the opportunities and risks of users must recognize and understand.

E-Government, online banking, online news, online shopping & co can develop their potential, there are of course also appropriately experienced users who are accustomed to dealing with phone and Internet services.

Similar to every user of online offerings should assess the consequences of an unsecured Verbindung_ or the careless sharing of private information the risks in road traffic, such as aquaplaning or driving without a seat belt.

Education and labour market

Digital media have facilitated access to knowledge, know how and training. Through online courses and digital libraries almost unlimited on-demand knowledge transfer opportunities. Especially tutorials and guidelines on the use of information technology can be found very easily online. The result is a cycle. An ecosystem with digital fit users can use these offers to make and educate themselves accordingly. Users who continuously deal with new tools, benefit of them in business life and in the labour market. The awareness that the digital world permanently allows access to independent education and knowledge is crucial.  It is also dependent on adult education not only on training by the employer or Government sponsored offers. Education and continuing education for all age groups are a key factor for success in the labour market.

State

The State has many ways to create the conditions for a future-safe eco-system. Alongside competitiveness and education in dealing with digitization, a few points were examples mentioned at this point:

Broadband access

Not only in rural areas, even in some areas of Vienna, there are still homes with download rates under 10 MB.

Open data

Data are the Foundation of many online applications. State institutions have both quantitatively and qualitatively high-quality information, hardly used. The release of these records could provide the Foundation for completely new areas of application - without any search after the next gas station to American services must be.

Legal framework conditions

So that new business models can occur, a rapid implementation for new opportunities (for example, self propelled vehicles) is required. In particular, the interpretation of legislation must meet the requirements of new developments.  A stale and vaguely formulated decisions slows down innovation and creates many ambiguities that may lead to obstrusen court decisions.

E-Government

Theoretically offer citizen card and mobile signature in Austria the possibility of digital identification and signature. Indeed, there are currently only a few channels, which can be completed online. Each authority way in which a paper form is used, is it filled out online then printed to be :-), has nothing to do with a digital official! Under the motto "Austria has an output problem, not a revenue problem", there would be tremendous opportunities to reduce the costs in Austria _ by means of E-Government. A win-win situation, this also citizens and businesses time and money would _sparen.

Digitization as an opportunity for Austria

The digital change asserts itself as a result processes in all walks of life be simplified and improved. Creativity, innovation and openness are the raw material of this revolution. In global competition, countries therefore also have a chance, that do not have oil, gas or cheap labor.

Benefit are those who recognize this opportunity and take advantage of. Everyone else who wait and crowd out have left.

An ecosystem, that among the winners will, must quickly decide whether it seizes this opportunity and promotes and makes a basic premise of his actions.  The decision lies with the State, the company and especially every citizen for himself.
